I'd like to be able to type my roster right into the document and print. Seems that this would make it easier to save, modify, and share warbands and keep my clubmates from having to try to read my poor handwriting.

I checked the document section of the yahoo group, and every ITEN document seems to exist in a modifiable draft version except for the Warband roster.

Help!

I agree that the Runtherd's special ability should probably cost a couple of points.

I've decided to junk the split grit roll rule as it's a bit complicated, and also a bit cheesy, as Necrons will almost certainly pass the first grit roll to stand up after being knocked down.

So I've changed Necrons to have a standard 3+ grit, but added a new special rule called Reanimation Protocols. This gives them a reroll on failed grit tests.

I dropped the FV, SV and Speed down so that they were a bit more reasonable. Sentinels and Custodians have the same FV and SV as Grey Knights, so to give them an edge, I've given Sentinels Combat Master and Custodians Gun Kata. I've also added 5pts for each special ability, and I've replaced the different spears with a basic Custodes Halberd.

As for models, I reckon these would do quite nicely:

Begun the conversions yet as to model them?

As to the stats: Custodes, fluff wise, pre-date the Space Marines.
Each custodian is created uniquely, and not 'en masse' as is the case with Space Marines
or Grey Knights.

The Gene Seed to create Grey Knights is rumoured to come from the Emperor
himself, as he foresaw his demise and sought to further protect mankind with warriors
able to fight off warp-spawn.

So, which stat lines ought to b better, fluff wise?
In Iten the beauty is that individuality is fully possible.
Maybe you should take advantage of that?
Some custodes are less good, equal or better than Grey Knights.

As for armament: the Custodes armament was the inspiration
for the armament of the Grey Knights.

What do you think of these:

Custodes 1: 24518
Custodes 2: 25418
Custodes 3: 25518
Custodes 4: 25528
Custodes 5: 26518
Captain-General: 26528 (Leader)

The first two are one point weaker in either FV or SV;
the third one is equal to a Grey Knight;
The fourth is equal, save that he is one point faster;
the fifth is formidable in FV;
and the last is the Captain-General.

These stats should make Custodes playable, without tabling your opponent,
but are in keep with the Holy Fluff. A warband with five individual Custodes.
To further enhance this you could imply the rule that each Custodes is unique
and may only be fielded once per warband.

As a weapon: the Custodes Halberd:

Combat Bonus: 3
Range: 24"
Grit Penalty: 1
Cost: 6

The 24" obviously is for the Bolter, and to make obvious that it isn't just any
old ordinary Bolter, use the Combat Bonus and Grit Penalty of the Halberd.

These stats are a tat weaker than yours,
but they keep game-play going and are more in keep with the fluff that they are
the equals, and sometimes the better of Grey Knights.

I definitely wanted to go "over the top" with the Custodes, they should be out-and-out the toughest units in the game. But at the same time I appreciate that they can't be so tough that it's impossible for an opponent to kill them.

Other than changing their Speed to 2, do you have any other suggestions? I definitely want them to have a higher stat line that Marines - I suppose Grey Knights could serve as a baseline?

Nice to see an addition for the Custodes!

I must confess however, that although the Custodes are the toughest
'Marines' that roam 40K, the Custodes stats are a bit overdone...

With a FV of seven and the Weapon Bonus, do you even need to roll a D6
to slay your opponent?

The 4 and 3 speed bonus are also a bit overdone.
A max bonus of 2 should be sufficient.

The main thing is to keep the game balanced.

You are in for some very nice conversion work,
I'm looking forward to the pictures!

Oh, by any chance, do you know if you have to equal or exceed
the armour rating to hit an opponent figure?

Grit: 4+
FV: 3+
SV: 3+
Speed: 4+
Notes: Leader

Stingwing
Grit: 4+
FV: 2+
SV: 3+
Speed: 4+

Armour: Vespid Armour
Type: Light
Notes: 6+ To Hit

Weapon: Neutron Blaster
Type: Medium
Combat Bonus: 2+
Range: 12"
Grit Penalty: none
Cost: 2

Examples:

Vespid Strain Leader with Vespid Armour and Neutron Blaster: 22pts
Vespid Stingwing with Vespid Armour and Neutron Blaster: 21pts

Not much variation here but then Vespids have not been well developed in 40K. Their main advantage is their high speed. Perhaps the forthcoming Tau codex will add some more options. They could be customised by giving them access to Tau weaponry that the 40K codex forbids.
