Is this Dreadnought Infantry of a Vehicle?

Postby golan2072 » December 7th, 2012, 1:55 pm

Here is a walker I painted as a Neo-Soviet "cavalry" unit for my near-future Stalingrad 2072 game. You can see its size compared to an unpainted (yet) Neo-Soviet trooper. Should I represent it as a Veteran infantry figure with Dreadnought armour (2+) and a Light Machine Gun each (and use in 6-walker units), or should this be a Veteran Vehicle with Light Armour and a Heavy Machine Gun each?

The walker mini is a 15mm Kremlin Miniatures Rising Sun MANITOU.

That's a good question. You could probably make the argument either way.

In regards to the armor, do you think small arms should have a chance of penetrating or not? Will the OPFOR have enough support weapons to give them a fighting chance if you make these guys a vehicle?

I'd probably first try them as a "dreadnought" w/ 2+ armor save and see how it goes.

The OPFOR (White Legion AKA Post-Apoc Nazis) have four already-painted armoured cars:

And two HUGE tanks from Old Crow (of which I don't have a picture yet).

But, regardless, I'd probably make them Dreadnought Armour as "cavalry".

Omer,

(sorry I didn't see this sooner - haven't been here nearly as often as I should be)

I went back and forth on it too, but ultimately decided to treat them as Power Armor. In my mind, they are simply a lower-tech equivalent of power armor, so they don't function in the same way as proper armored fighting vehicles or even larger mecha. Even if they do offer more protection than smaller, higher-tech power armor, it's basically offset by presenting a larger target.

Here's the card I made for that model (the name is from my own setting).
